Thomas “Adam” Peters (TAP) has been working with leather since 2017. He inherited the gene from his grandfather, Jim Twyeffort, who tooled belts, holsters and gun slings as a hobby throughout the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s. Adam still wears one of his grandfather’s belts nearly everyday, a testament to the durability of quality craftsmanship in leatherwork.

At a young age, Adam was always interested in anything Western. Growing up in suburban Oklahoma, Adam was able to play cowboy on the weekends, riding horses, roping, shooting guns and generally having a grand ole time on a family property just a few minutes from his home. He attributes his love of cowboy culture to his roots in Oklahoma, his grandfathers and of course watching Lonesome Dove on repeat from 1994 - Present day.

It’s with this affinity for all things western that Adam started TAP Leather. His belief that you don’t have to be punching cows everyday in order to enjoy a bit of the western lifestyle has pushed him to make fine leather products for anyone wanting to put a little cowboy…or cowgirl…in their daily routine.

At TAP Leather, we pride ourselves on making each piece custom. We never use templates or patterns for tooling. Each piece is hand drawn, carved and tooled to the customers order. Even those tooled pieces we have for sale on the site are slightly different, so you know each article is unique and one-of-a-kind.

Our philosophy centers around functional art. We believe that the priority lies in making something you can use and abuse everyday, but also makes a statement as a piece of art.

Just because it’s tough, doesn’t mean it needs to be ugly.

For custom belts, dog collars, camera slings and guitar slings, we only use the best Hermann Oak grade A leather. Hermann Oak is the industry standard and one of the best tanneries in the world. Their vegetable tanned leather has used the same organic, natural tanning process for over a hundred years.
